Start small, aim high

Despite the hugely important work that GUD does, it remains a small charity run by volunteers. Each of GUD's volunteers understands that development in upcountry Gambia cannot be achieved over a fortnight's trip or even a matter of months.

Supporting a community to manage sustainable growth and building productive and trust-based relationships with villagers takes not only enthusiasm and drive but also patience and long-term commitment.

Those volunteers that have been lucky enough to visit Kanubeh can vouch for how rewarding an experience it can be to work with the villagers towards their goal of self-reliance and a better future.
