Worthing to Amsterdam
On 22 October 2011, George and Sam started their sponsored cycle from Worthing, West Sussex, all the way to Amsterdam!
They cycled for 3 days before ferrying from Harwich to Holland and finally tackling a 50-mile stretch to the capital.
George has recently become involved with GUD and is keen to help as much as possible with setting up the banana farm in Kanubeh. Any amount you are able to sponsor him and his friend Sam for their cycling challenge will be gratefully received and go directly to the project.
To sponsor them securely online, please visit George's
fundraising page.
The GUD Challenge
We have held a fundraising event every month since October 2010 as part of The GUD Challenge to make £10,000 in a year.

Andrew's Great Runs
During 2011, Andrew Firth ran the
Great British Run in London, the BUPA Great Manchester Run and
the
BUPA Great Edinburgh Run! Everybody here is really impressed by Andrew's hard work training and the great times he set on each run!
If you'd like to show your appreciation for all his efforts, you can still contribute to his
online fundraising page.
Mount Kilimanjaro
In August 2011, 7 GUD volunteers took on Mt Kilimanjaro for the charity's biggest fundraising event yet! Find out more about the Kilimanjaro climb.
World Record Attempt
On 24 August 2011, David Bathurst set out to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for reading aloud continuously for 114 hours! David's attempt was at St Mary's Church, Barnham (West Sussex) and he managed to raise £2755 in support of GUD and the
Disasters Emergency Committee.
David has already completed many feats for charity, including reciting from memory the Gospels and the complete works of Gilbert and Sullivan, and we have every confidence in David being able to complete his next challenge - whatever that will be!
For more details, you can read David's own account of the attempt and the press release in the
Church Times.
Pier-to-Pier Challenge
In July 2011, David and Janet Underwood, GUD founders, undertook the Pier-to-Pier Challenge:
"16 brave souls set off on the Pier-to-Pier Challenge, riding from Worthing Pier to Brighton Pier and back. We also had the pleasure of carrying Paddy and Finley (2 grandchildren) who enjoyed the ride immensely!
"Taking us along the official South Coast Cycle Route we were by the sea for all but about a mile when we had to join the A259.
"It was a beautiful and warm day but the sea breeze kept our temperature and speeds down! We enjoyed going through the locks at Shoreham, stopping to watch wonderful sailing yachts tackle the lock. And we also enjoyed stopping on Hove Beach Greens for a 'bring and share' picnic (we brought and our son Sam shared!).
"Tired but content, we headed back home knowing 7 hours of cycling would fund over 4 months' education for 110 children in the Gambia."
"We had a brief stop at Brighton Pier with group photos proving tricky amongst the heaving Brighton crowds!
