Supporting local business
The charity believes strongly in supporting the villagers to make their own decisions and providing them with the expertise and resources to take on workable and viable projects.
GUD is currently funding the running costs of Kanubeh Nursery School but we hope that, in the next 3-5 years, the charity will be able to take a step back if the villagers are able to organise and run the school themselves.
From a financial point of view, we are in conversation with the villagers to develop small local businesses that will have the purpose of generating small profits for the workers and, in time, creating enough profit that can be re-invested in those businesses and go towards funding the nursery school.
It is clear that these smaller projects, like a video club or making ice drinks, will help the villagers organically develop the skills required to eventually take on the running and management of the banana plantation themselves, while generating income at the same time.
