PARTNERS

Our partnerships

As a charity, we aim to support the educational and economic development of communities in the upcountry region of the Gambia. To achieve this, we work closely with key stakeholders with regard to both the fundraising and community development aspects of our work.

Accordingly, we are part of several important partnerships, including the following:

The villagers of Kanubeh

Our main partners are the villagers of Kanubeh in upcountry Gambia.

In Kanubeh, the villagers voted on their own community development priorities and decided they wanted to build a nursery school. We have supported them in building the school themselves, as well as in running the school through a representative village school committee.

The Education Department of The Upper River Region in the Gambia

We recognise the importance of locating Kanubeh Nursery School within the mainstream of education in the Gambia: preparing the children well so that they are able to continue their education on to Lower Middle School and beyond.

The Peace Corps

The Peace Corps is a significant US charity with community development aims which closely match those of GUD. The organisation has volunteers on placement in different areas of the Gambia who undertake projects in fields such as health care, agriculture and educational development.

Peace Corps volunteers began working with us and Kanubeh villagers in 2008 and their knowledge and expertise have been invaluable to the success of the charity in the village. Having built a strong working relationship with them, we hope to continue our work with the Peace Corps on future projects.

In the UK

Other key partners are connected to our fundraising activities in the UK. We have a wide network of volunteers and supporters who all work together to ensure the charity raises sufficient money to continue funding the nursery school and begin other projects.

Partnering with GUD

We are continually looking out for other like-minded charities and organisations that support development in the Gambia. If you or your organisation would like to collaborate with GUD, please get in touch.
