The GUD Story so far

The GUD founders have visited Kanubeh 5 times and plan to visit at least on an annual basis in the future.

As a charity, GUD has accepted the villagers' priorities and committed to supporting them to achieve them. In return, the villagers have understood and accepted the principles which drive GUD.

In its first 2½ years, GUD managed to raise £18,000 to support the villagers to build a nursery school for themselves. This involved making an agreement with a master builder, a villager now living on the Gambian coast, to oversee the construction free of charge.

GUD has also liaised with the local Director of Education to enlist their support.

We have funded the transportation of donated school furniture and equipment and helped the villagers open the school on 11 January 2010.
